Ethernet Analyzers and Software:

There are several kinds of Ethernet analyzers. Some analyzers are designed to check Ethernet cabling, to make sure that it meets the specifications. Other analyzers are designed to watch network traffic over an Ethernet, and analyze the packets for errors.

Watching packets on an Ethernet channel is also called "packet sniffing." The Sniffing FAQ provides a wide range of information on packet sniffing.

The following sites provide Ethernet analyzers, monitors, and SNMP software:
Fluke Networks

MG-SOFT
Netscout Sniffer

Network Instruments
Solarwinds
WildPackets
Wireshark (formerly Ethereal) The Wireshark packet analyzer is an open source project that can be downloaded and used for free.
